Do you want your horses feet to look this good after 10 minutes? Then you need to read this blog! Now this little bottle is a bottle of magic! I promise you, don’t be fooled by its size (I mean, Jolien's huge dish plates for feet make it look smaller haha) but packs a hell of a punch and will ABSOLUTELY sort out your frog issues in your horse! Don’t believe me? Well here is the issue I was dealing with for months and no matter what I done I simply couldn’t get them back to 100% they’d start looking somewhat better then go backwards again.
Here is the start of my issue:

Now this was the worst of her feet, the left hind! Although both hinds were pretty similar and also one front was about 70% less bad As the hinds.
At first it was a change of season and seemed like her feet were taking up a lot of water, ‘shedding’ process is a natural process and they shed several times a year so don’t worry! It can also be for a few reason, poor hoof care, constantly wet enviroment and even lack of exercise can cause excessive shed!
in this situation in particular I would said this happened during a natural shed process as this literally almost appeared overnight! I brought her in to wash and pick out feet as usual and her frogs were just peeling. Then the two issues of environment comes into play, the horses on our yard are trained to pee out of their stables... Jolien was being put in a sand pen for awhile and her feet weren’t being washed afterwards (I personally usually clean them out if she’s been in, but even I will admit there were times I forgot too.) it was a mix of it being wet as well.. Of course these little grains of dirt and sand got stuck in the shed process and eventually it lead to awful looking feet.
I couldnt believe how how quickly they changed, I was absolutely shocked when I picked them up to see this. Without second thought I grabbed the hibi-scrub and started scrubbing multiple times a week, she was banned from the sand pen also as that was rotting her feet away.
It it was a horrendous situation and it has taken me MONTHS of trying and trying. As I stated previously I would get to a certain stage with them and they’d go back again.. They never looked 100% and even if I missed two days of picking her feet out I would start smelling thrush starting to appear and small bits of shed .
But thank god Keratex sent me this little bottle of glory because the strict routine combination of Hoof Gel, Frog Cleanser, Hoof & Leg Scrub have saved her feet; oh and of course the glorious Coconut Balm too!!

So here is my routine to get these frogs looking in tip top condition again and The amazing end result... ready?
1. Clean out the hooves, brush out and apply some hoof and leg scrub, make sure you spray into all those grooves and heels! Then simply let that dry whilst you have a cuppa tea & some hay for the horses!
2. Once that has all dried naturally & you’re hydrated of tea, simply apply the frog cleanser now I always apply the nozzle directly against the frog and give a small press. Plenty comes out and it saturated right through frog, this is why this product lasts you longer than you think; a little goes a seriously long way.
3. See? Easy peasy! Just make sure you get those tight small areas on the frog that you might not see unless you really look, this is how thrush can progress extremely quickly. This solution and nozzle helps get into those tight, almost invisible lines and saturates right into the frogs so you don’t need to worry if it’s that thin of a crack you can fit the nozzle... that solution will do the rest for you and get to those awkward places!!
4. I like to then apply Hoof Gel all over the sole, frog and heel, why you ask? Well Keratex Hoof Gel creates an amazing barrier the more you use it, the reason I use it mainly underneath is because she needs a lot of protection and locking in all the good stuff whilst keeping out all the bad! Clever huh?
4. Now it’s your choice if you want to apply Hoof Gel or Coconut Balm to the hoof wall afterwards! I just judge on what stage of her feet are at.
Here is the result of this routine after around 5 weeks with day on day off, no shedding, no smell and starting to look like feet again! Also, if you can't decide on Coconut Balm or Gel I have added some with and withouts. Both products provide different things so its just up to you on which you think you need at the time! Sometimes I actually use to build a barrier with the gel underneath and the coconut balm to give her hoof some extra nourishment.
