My beautiful little Muna is going to help me show you how I keep on top of these feet with our routine!

Now Muna is a different ball game to Jolien’s feet who need a lot of attention and care, Jolien’s routine is a lot stricter and has to be everyday. Her feet arent the best but Ketatex and our amazing Farrier help her immensely.

Muna’s feet get seen to twice a week with this routine as they’re solid and don’t need to be worried too much over! At the moment it’s everynight whilst she is in to lose some weight before spring grass. But she tends to live out 24/7 with her old mare friend! But that doesn’t mean those tiny feet don’t get monitored or looked after!

Barefoot is different to shod horses, as I’m sure you can imagine but they can still look fantastic!

So, here is how we start after she’s had a day in the field!

The Start

Funny how I ended up with a horse who has the biggest feet on the yard and also one with the smallest feet! Both are straining to sort out haha!

It starts off the same as Jolien, cleaning out, washing out with my trusty bucket and scrubbing brush! But here is how it changes, the white line is extremely important so I use an old shoeing nail to very gently scrape out any hidden gravel or stones without digging too much. It’s extra important with bare feet as this can result in abcesses if not removed or other issues!

Here is our video with Moonpie’s tiny feet!

See? Easy Peasy! Do that to all four feet, spray in some hoof & leg scrub from Keratex, let that all dry naturally whilst you have a cuppa tea and a biscuit.

After that has has all dried and ready for the next stage it should look nice and clean like this!

Just scrape out anything that has gotten in the hoof whilst waiting to dry, Muna is full of mischief so she’s always up to something! I have to contain her away from everything whilst waiting to dry haha!

So lets start applying! Ps! Be aware, Muna is only 2.5 years old, she is still very much a baby horse! She has the attention span of a fly, she's SO loving, curious and interested in absolutely anything in life. You'll notice the difference between Jolien and her in the videos, I hope she stays like this forever! So young, happy, loving, trusting, kind and just hilarious. She makes me smile everyday, I absolutely adore her! If you would like to read about her then keep your eyes watching for our about my horses post! So here we go...

Tada!! Isn't she just lovely? She is around 10hh and hopefully not growing anymore than she should be haha!! So after all this cleaning, cuddles, scrubbing and scraping I like to put Hoof Gel on the bottom of the feet, you should end up with your lovely feet looking like this!
